The Kirkcudbright School

The Town of Kirkcudbright in South West Scotland has been an inspiration to artists for many years. The unique quality of the light, easy access to the centres of population and the gentle rolling coastal landscapes have all helped establish it as a favourite haunt for artists. In its heyday it was known as the 'St. Ives of Scotland' due to its artistic colony and it is from this cache of artists that The Kirkcudbright Gallery draws much of its stock. We also feature paintings depicting the rural landscapes of Dumfries & Galloway by artists not directly associated with the Kirkcudbright School.
